The BEAM Oakland is opening its doors!
Hello Bay Area!
The BEAM is officially opening it's doors for learning workshops in October!
We are on a mission to strengthen and build community through meaningful in-person and hands-on content. We are elated to bring these first of many offerings to you all.
Come join us and let us BEAM YOU UP!
Tuesdays — Whether it's a connection lab, improv class, movement practice, laughing, singing or sharing, this is a night for facilitated human connection.
Wednesdays — Creatives of all types are offering hands-on workshops that teach or lead participants in making something in real-time.
All events will have a registration link on our Luma site. If your event has a fee associated with it, instructions for how to pay the facilitator directly will be included in the bottom of the registration page.
More events will be added, so stay tuned.
And lastly, TALK TO US! Do you have a workshop you would like to offer? Or content you would like to see happen? Do you know someone who is an impactful teacher or facilitator? Tell us things…we want to hear from you! info@thebeamoakland.com
💥October Events💥
Tuesday 10/6 at 7p - The Present Moment Game
When we gather with others, conversation almost automatically drifts toward what has already happened or what might happen next. Stories, plans, reactions, hopes—these patterns are so ingrained that we barely notice how completely we relate to one another through the lens of the past and future. But when we pause those habits, something surprising occurs. The room changes. Attention sharpens. A different kind of connection begins to emerge. A small clearing inside awareness opens—a place where no future is rehearsing itself, and no echoes of the past are allowed to enter. We can touch this space alone in contemplative practices, but it's rare to enter it with others. The Present Moment Game is a simple social meditation designed to explore that possibility. Participants speak only from what is happening in the moment, and gently bring each other back when attention drifts. What unfolds is often unexpected, and never the same twice. Curious? Come play!

Wednesday 10/7 at 6:30p - "Hands On" Night: Calder Style Mobile Making
Note: this is a paid workshop. See instructions at bottom.
During this community workshop, you will learn the basics of creating mobiles inspired by the work of Alexander Calder. We will explore balance, movement, shape, and composition while constructing a small hanging sculpture from steel wire and sheet metal.
We will begin by looking at how Calder used simple shapes and lines to create sculptures that move through space. You will then experiment with different shapes and arrangements before learning how to balance multiple elements on a wire armature.
All tools and materials included!

Tuesday 10/13 at 6p - The Connection Lab
his space welcomes anyone who wants to slow down, be seen, and connect more honestly with themselves and others.
Gathering in circles is one of the oldest human practices, and one most of us were never actually taught. Yet these are the skills that deepen our relationships and bring more safety and belonging into our lives.
Connection Lab is a simple, guided space to practice them in a gender-inclusive space — through listening, presence, and real conversation. Whether you're craving more depth in your relationships, hoping to meet like-minded people, or just want to feel more at ease in a room full of humans, you're welcome here. 🙏🏼

Sunday 10/18 at 1p - Contour Drawing and Wire Sculpture
This one-day workshop introduces contour drawing as a foundation for wire sculpture. The class begins with exercises in blind contour drawing, learning to let the eye guide the hand and render what we observe into one continuous line. Drawings are then refined into intentional contour studies, which serve as templates for the sculptural work to follow. In the second half of the class, participants learn foundational wire-working techniques and use their studies to build freestanding or wall-mounted sculptures.
All tools and materials provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Tuesday 10/27 at 7p - Community Singing!
Join our community song circle for an evening! We will lift our voices together, with fun songs and some two-part harmonies, led by a wonderful Bay Area music educator, Gretchen Baglyos.
No experience needed, and no audition required. All you need is the desire to be with others and participate in the joy of a room full of people singing together.
Whether you're a seasoned singer or only sing in the shower, there's a place for you. Come ready to smile, croon, and connect.
All voices welcome.
